Every jurisdiction, and where each one stands.
The register is the authority for the status of every state file, the version in force, and the calendar. It is published as it is kept, so that no body is surprised by a re-audit and nobody can say a state was singled out.
Jurisdictions
File number, state, postal code, status, current version, baseline label, notice record, next scheduled re-audit, and the data-cycle date it follows. Downloadable as CSV. Default order is by file number; sort order is not a ranking.

What each status means
A state file moves through these statuses in order. A released file moves to re-audit due by the calendar.

| In progress | Declarations filed; retrieval, coding, or drafting under way |
| Notice sent | Mechanical checks passed; the state-level bodies noticed; the ten business day window open |
| Window closed | Responses being handled; the release checklist not yet passed |
| Released | Passed the release checklist; the state page live at its versioned URL; deposit and DOI recorded |
| Backfill due | A legacy file awaiting the fiscal backfill that carries it to the baseline |
| Re-audit due | The scheduled re-audit date has arrived |
Numbers, codes, and the manifest
Every jurisdiction carries a two-digit file number in alphabetical order from Alabama and its postal abbreviation; the number is used in filenames and the abbreviation in URLs, and neither is ever reassigned. The file manifest records which deliverables exist for each state at each version and their hashes, and no completeness claim is made until the manifest closes for a cycle.
